Preschool Excelsior, MN

Our Savior School offers a safe and caring environment where children can thrive as they play and learn. We are committed to excellence and view each child as a special and unique gift of God. Our goal is to provide a nurturing environment that provides experiences for children that allow them to grow spiritually, physically, socially, emotionally and intellectually. We strive for all children to grow in their faith in Christ and learn how they too can serve Christ, His church, and His world.

Our Savior Early Childhood Center, Preschool and Kindergarten programs are accredited by the National Lutheran Schools Accreditation (NLSA) and the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) – the gold star standard for early childhood programs across the country. Being accredited by these organizations means you can be confident that our school delivers the highest quality early care, education and faith formation.

Philosophy and Objectives

Our philosophy is to provide a Christ-centered learning environment that encourages the development of the whole child through creative and sensory play, discovery/learning centers and physical development.

  • Work and play in a Christian atmosphere with other children.
  • Be aware of the daily presence of Christ in their lives.
  • Be themselves and develop at their own rate.
  • Express themselves through art and play materials freely and constructively.
  • Provide opportunities to develop large and fine motor skills.
  • Learn to establish relationships with adults other than family.
  • Learn developmentally appropriate limits of behavior.
  • Build an atmosphere of caring and sharing, where children learn to respect one another, and build the necessary social skills that will enable them to attain success as useful and productive Christian citizens.
  • Build feelings of self-esteem and security.
  • Increase their ability to handle their emotions constructively.
  • Learn respect for others’ feelings and belongings.
  • Enjoy a Preschool and/or Child Care Program experience that will simplify adjustment to elementary school and other social situations.
  • Provide a healthy environment, proper nutrition, rest, and physical exercise.
  • Provide innovative and developmentally appropriate curriculum that challenges and motivates children in many areas (i.e. readiness skills in reading, math, language skills, science)
  • Learn to be independent–to solve their own problems and do things for themselves.
Preschool 01

Care and Learning Opportunity

At every level of care children will experience a warm, responsive, and predictable environment that will foster positive relationships with adults and their peers. The love of Jesus will be the foundational piece to all these special relationships.

Preschool 24 to 36 months

Ducky Room

(ages 20 months to 36 months)

Our Ducky Room is the perfect group for all those little ones 20 – 36 months old to explore, discover, and play. Parents will see their little ones gain social skills like sharing, personal confidence in self-help skills and grow in their knowledge of God’s love for them.

Preschool age 36 months through age 4

Lamb Room – Preschool

(age 36 months through age 4)

In the Lamb Room, children who are 3 or 4 years old begin to develop their understanding of reading, math and science concepts through many hands-on experiences as they explore, discover, and play together.

Prekindergarten for 4 and 5 year olds

Whale Room – Prekindergarten

(4 and 5 years)

Students who are 4 or 5 years old move into the Whale Room fully expecting to prepare themselves for entry into Kindergarten. Pre-readiness in reading, math, science, and technology skills are developed as they play, explore, and learn with their friends.

Children are presented with wonderful opportunities to explore the process of creating music.  Through the use of poems, rhymes, simple songs, movement, and Orff instruments, children explore steady beat, matching pitch, and simple music concepts like loud and soft, high and low.  They have many opportunities to make a joyful noise to the Lord.

Kindergarten Connection

Kindergarten Connection is a unique program offered at the pre-kindergarten level that gives students an opportunity to experience Kindergarten.

This program serves to help pre-kindergarten students make a seamless transition from a preschool setting into a Kindergarten setting.

Teachers create a fun experience where students are able to be with current Kindergarten students. This unique program allows children to discover Kindergarten through story time, learning centers and creative expression. The children really enjoy this learning and social play time with their Kindergarten friends.

Another wonderful benefit of this program for Whale Room pre-kindergarteners choosing to enroll at Our Savior School is that they will experience a seamless transition into Kindergarten, as this child will already know and love their Kindergarten teacher.
