Congratulations to our Our Savior School Spelling Bee Team! The team spelled their way into an overall 3rd place finish at the 2016 Region II Spelling Bee held at Mayer Lutheran High School on April 9th. Our school has been competing in this competition since 1990 with several wins and placings throughout the years. However, this year’s 3rd place finish was our first overall team placement since 2003. This year’s team consisted of eight students: Sophia (1st gr), Noah (2nd gr), Leo (3rd gr), Avery (4th gr), Jessi (6th gr), Liam (6th gr), Zach (7th gr), and Isaac (8th gr). We are super proud of the efforts given by each of these students to help get us this overall placement team win!
This year, 13 area schools competed — totaling 97 students in 1st through 8th grade. Students were divided into one of four division levels (1st/2nd grade, 3rd/4th grade, 5th/6th grade, and 7th/8th grade). Each school was allowed to enter two students in each division (approximately 26 students competed in each division). The overall team score was calculated based on the six top scoring team members of each school.
Our Savior School had several students place within their divisions, with one student receiving a perfect score and the first place trophy! Congratulations to the students placing in their divisions:
We are so proud of the entire team and appreciate all the extra hours of studying over the past month and a half to prepare for this day. Thank you also to the parents, who helped encourage and support their kids throughout this process. This is truly a team effort! God is Good!
